I’ve never been very skilled at ‘fitting in’, really. I’m a total weirdo. And I’m happy this way.
I don’t always play by the rules. I often find them boring, mindless, and, yes, uncalled for. [generally speaking] I require the freedom to be myself- I want to be happy.
And this, of course, extends to my personal style. I keep it simple [black – everything matches], but I do like to have fun. I’m the kind of girl who wears pants under my dresses, and sneakers to a semi-formal event [oops]. And still, I’d rather be overdressed than underdressed, and prepared for anything. [you never know]
I really couldn’t give a flying fuck what anyone thinks about how I look and what I do. I face a lot of opposition every day. But I also get a lot more praise and encouragement for having the guts to do what I do. That makes me happy- the support. It kind of gives me hope for humanity.
I’m also happy to see that many brands do want to work with me, and do like my look. This tells me that times are changing [finally!], and society is [slowly] beginning to embrace individuality.
I guess what I’m trying to say here is- be yourself. Don’t be afraid to freely express who you are.
Suppression leads to frustration [which is never a good thing], which leads to other issues later on.. thus, don’t try to be someone you’re not. Strive to be the best you you can be.
You can’t please everyone, and it’s not worth trying. Do what makes you happy.. when you do, you’ll find it’s not nearly as scary as you once thought.
