Well, it’s officially autumn here in upstate NY, and I don’t know what to do about this chilly weather.. I don’t like it. BUT I do love watching as the leaves change color. I live in an area with a lot of trees [and other plant life] and I love that.
It’s time to bring out the fingerless gloves now to keep my hands warm! It’s a super cheap and easy DIY and I can’t believe more people don’t do it instead of buying those overpriced, already cut ‘fashionable’ gloves.
1) Go to Target or Walmart or Dollar Tree or whatever, and get a pair [or two, or twenty!] of those cheap knit gloves. They come in a million different colors and are usually $1 a pair, but sometimes you can find some killer deals. [neon 4-pack for 4.99 on Amazon]
2) Get a pair of [sharp!] scissors and cut off the tips of the fingers. If you’re unsure, cut a little at a time and keep trying them on as you go. It’s better they be too long- you can fix that. Also keep in mind that they are going to fray a little and roll upward [which I think is so grungy-cool]. If you don’t want them to do that, you can burn the edges with a lighter or use [clear] nail polish [Sinful Colors is $2], but I personally don’t like that stiff feeling between my fingers.
Fingerless gloves have definitely been a staple of my cold weather wardrobe for years. I have long fingers and most gloves don’t fit me properly, plus I like to have my fingers free to do a lot of things anyway. And they look cool. Form and function. [fucktion, yo!]
