“FASHION IS ABOUT TRENDS. People tell you what to wear, when to wear it, and what’s ‘in’ and ‘out’. Fashion is for people with no real identity, who just follow the crowd. They’re sheep. And all those bloggers you see sporting the same jacket and toting the same bag, they are not ‘personal style’ bloggers- they have no real style. They’re fashion bloggers, showing off the hottest items of the moment, the same things everyone else has.
STYLE IS ABOUT CHARACTER. Who are you and what do you like? Those should be the main defining factors of your style. Personal style is all about expressing yourself, so don’t be ashamed to be bold, if that’s the kind of person you are.. and otherwise. Be you.”
And I feel I need to elaborate on the anti-fashion idea..
I’m not saying you need to be all punk rock and shit, or look like an 80’s reject.. You need to do/wear what feels right to you. Don’t worry what the trends are right now, what’s ‘in’ and ‘out’, or any fashion ‘rules’. None of it matters. What does matter is that you feel comfortable and confident in what you’re wearing.
Personally, I think we should decorate ourselves with things that inspire us and make us happy. My big thing is jewelry- I love to look down at my fingers and see beautiful rings I’ve aquired in many places, and come with many stories.. And something more permanent- finger tattoos. I have Viking runes and other symbols on my fingers to keep me inspired and motivated, and pushing on to new adventures. While many view lots of finger jewelry as excessive, I have good, meaningful intentions behind it. I love that shit.
I’m not telling you to be weird and decadent and just plain ‘out there’ like me, I want you to express who YOU are. So if you like that Batman seatbelt, or an old-lady brooch, wear it! Don’t worry what others think. You are the only person who matters.
